Welcome to ICT Jobs Ethiopia

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information about users of our website at https://ictjobs.et and our mobile application (together, the "Services").

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, this policy also describes your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR, and the legal bases we rely on to process your personal data.

1. Who We Are (Data Controller)

ICT Jobs Ethiopia is the data controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy.

We do not target our Services at the EEA or the UK, but we apply the standards below to every user who reaches us from those regions.

2. Information We Collect

Information you give us. Browsing is anonymous - you do not need an account to read job listings on the website or in the app, and we never ask for a CV to browse. We only receive personal data you deliberately send us: your name, email address, organization details, and listing content when you submit a job listing or email us.

Information collected automatically. Device type and operating system, app version, language, coarse location inferred from IP address, referring pages, pages and job listings viewed, and interactions with the Services.

Technical information. Standard request data needed to deliver and secure the website, such as browser type, requested pages, and coarse location inferred from IP address.

Push notification subscription. To send new job alerts, the app subscribes your device to a Firebase Cloud Messaging topic. The subscription is anonymous: it tells us a device wants job alerts, not who you are. Turn it off with the Push Notifications switch under More, or in Android's notification settings.

3. How We Use Your Information and Our Legal Bases

Under the GDPR we process personal data only where we have a legal basis to do so:

• To provide and operate the Services - publishing job listings and responding to submissions and enquiries. Legal basis: performance of a contract, or steps taken at your request before entering one (Art. 6(1)(b)).
• To keep the Services secure and reliable - fraud prevention, abuse detection, debugging, and basic aggregate traffic measurement. Legal basis: our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)).
• Analytics and product measurement - understanding in aggregate which screens and listings are used, via Firebase Analytics, tied to a resettable app instance identifier rather than to your identity. Legal basis: our legitimate interests in maintaining and improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f)).
• Push notifications about new jobs - only if you enable them. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)); you may turn them off at any time.
• To meet legal obligations - responding to lawful requests and keeping required records. Legal basis: legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).

4. Consent and How to Change It

The website does not currently load an advertising network or advertising-consent platform. You can control ordinary browser storage through your browser settings. If advertising or optional analytics are introduced later, this policy and the applicable consent controls will be updated before those services are enabled.

5. Advertising Providers

No advertising provider is currently active on ICT Jobs Ethiopia. Any future provider will be disclosed here before its code is enabled.

6. Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

Our mobile app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. Google acts as our data processor for Firebase Analytics under the Google Cloud/Firebase Data Processing and Security Terms.

Firebase Analytics processes:

• A resettable, pseudonymous app instance ID.
• Device model, operating system version, app version, language, and country.
• Events such as app opens, screens opened, and whether a job alert notification was delivered and tapped.
• IP address, which Google uses to derive approximate country and then discards or truncates; we never see your full IP in analytics reports.

We use it only in aggregate. We do not use Firebase Analytics to identify you personally, we do not upload your name, email address, or CV content into it, and we do not link it to your ad profile. You can reset the identifier at any time by clearing the app's data or reinstalling the app.

Event and user-level data is retained according to the retention period configured in our Firebase project; aggregate reports remain available after that. For more information see Privacy and Security in Firebase.

7. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only:

• With your consent.
• With service providers acting on our instructions (hosting, email delivery, analytics, or error monitoring), bound by data processing agreements.
• With employers, where you deliberately submit an application or listing intended for them.
• To comply with legal obligations or valid legal requests.
• To protect and defend our rights, users, and property.
• In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

8. International Data Transfers

We are based in Ethiopia, and some infrastructure providers may process data in other countries. Where personal data of EEA, UK, or Swiss users is transferred outside those regions, appropriate contractual and technical safeguards are used where required.

9. Data Retention

• Job listing data: for as long as the listing is published, plus an archive of expired listings.
• Push notification subscription: until you turn alerts off or uninstall the app.
• Firebase Analytics data: as configured in our Firebase project; aggregate reports thereafter.
• Support correspondence: up to 24 months.

We keep data longer only where required by law or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

10. Your Rights

If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy.
• Have inaccurate data corrected.
• Have your data erased ("right to be forgotten").
• Restrict how we process your data.
• Receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
• Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
• Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@ictjobs.et. We respond within one month, and will tell you if we need a further two months for complex requests. We may ask for information to verify your identity. Exercising your rights is free of charge unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

11. Children

The Services are a professional job board and are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and our ad requests are not tagged as directed to children. In the EEA and the UK we do not knowingly process the data of anyone under 16 on the basis of consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Automated Decision-Making

We do not make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you based solely on automated processing. Ad personalization by Google involves profiling, but it does not have legal or similarly significant effects, and you can switch it off as described in section 4.

13. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures - including encryption in transit, access controls, and least-privilege administration - to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, and disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If a personal data breach is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the competent supervisory authority within 72 hours and inform affected users where required.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the effective date above and, for material changes, give notice in the app or on the website before the change takes effect. Where a change requires it, we will ask for your consent again.
